PROJECTS
Les Elles du Tango
Les Elles du Tango (The She’s/The Wings of Tango) is a European Team of Tangueras, led by Maria Filali and Tango organizer and researcher Gwen-Haël Denigot. Founded in late 2011, it is a global (musicality, history…) and cross-disciplinary (others body techniques, music, singing…) meeting point for people interested in tango from the view point of women/follower in tango.

A Particular Day
The project of the «Particular Days» takes it’s origin in reference to the famous eponym film by Ettore Scola.
The idea was born in a simple moment of life, shared with my friend Sandra Milena. One of those moments which are the source of so many ideas and projects motivated by the desire of sharing more meaningful moments of life together.
This project is a free interpretation of the destiny of the 2 characters of the film.
Sofia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni interpret 2 sensitive and simple beings, both isolated, maybe because of their sensitivities and their difference.
Their meeting is situated in a suspended moment of History and becomes a key moment of their personal paths, bringing them strong emotions and fantasy, bringing sense and depth to their life.
Our original idea in creating these moments of encounter in Rome, is thus based on our desire to create meaningful moments for all participants.
Sharing ideas and concepts on tango – thus implying a technical aproach – but also sharing sensations and life experiences.
Creating meaningful, yet simple moments together to share our visions on tango, in order to make our understanding more complete.
Our ambition by doing so is to generate moments that will become strong memories for participants, transforming, or even just « coloring », but profoundly, their life and dance paths.
We started the project in 2018 and are pursuing it in 2019. It has been so exciting, that we have decided to export the project to other cities.

CREATIVE WORK – Dance Videos
Dance video is the medium I’ve chosen to express my creativity as a choreographer and dancer. Over the years, through various enriching collaborations with talented directors who have the specific technical skills in that field, I conceived and directed the videos, in my attempts to convey my vision of tango on screen.
I started in 2007 by conceiving “À l’ombre d’une sieste,…Vertige” (Directed by Jean Gaudin).
Then, in 2014, 2 dance videos on the streets of Paris, “Premier Tango à Paris”, and “Con tus besos” (Directed by T. Baspeyras).
In 2016-17, a meaningful project for me was giving life to “El Después” (Directed by E. Weis). This project is ultimately thought to be used along with life performances mixing dance, music and narration. Do not hesitate to send me a private message if you are interested. Here the teaser (add video)
In 2017, during my first visit in the US, a project came along, like a dream “(O)Rage tango” (Directed by B. Hamieh)
I’m currently working on a new project entitled “Sweet Pain—Murmuration” (Directed by Elodie Weis).

Founded in late 2011, it is a global (musicality, history…) and cross-disciplinary (others body techniques, music, singing…) meeting point for people interested in tango from the view point of women/follower in tango.
All our activities are designed to give women a full role in the dance and in the bal. It means allowing women to come to terms with their role in the dance couple and also develop their own technique.
To think of and to play with the feminine in tango could by no means be of any interest without the male role. That’s why all activities are open to men, with whom we hope to exchange and find new paths of interaction in order to deepen the connection in the dance. We welcome as well people who would like to play with genders and roles, women leaders and men followers.
Les Elles du tango organizes technical classes with Maria, full week-end workshops with a special guest carefully chosen for his/her specific touch, as well as non-conventionnal events (concerts, conferences, diners, dance performance, etc.)
Each seminar is an opportunity to share our questions, doubts, illusions or disappointments each of us have experienced at some point in the milonga, and to collectively find ways and means to tackle with it.
Since 2012, we have received in Paris (in alphabetical order): Isabel Acuña, Daniel Carlsson, Sebastian Escobar, Gianpiero Galdi, Silvia Gerbi, Marcelo Gutierrez, Enzo Hoces, Andres Laza Moreno & Luciana Arregui, Emmanuelle Ponthieux, Diego Riemer, Javier Rodriguez, John Zabala. To come in 2019: Eloy Souto (February), Sigrid Van Tilbeurgh (April), Octavio Fernandez (May)…

Some words about Gwen-Haël Denigot
Gwen-Haël Denigot is a milonguera, living between Paris and Buenos Aires since 2011. Trained in philosophy and social sciences, she works as a journalist and is co-author of the reference book about tango in French language, the “Dictionnaire passionné du tango” (Seuil, 2015, 752 pages). Researching the subject for years as an historian and sociologist, she interviewed most of the leading tango musicians and dancers.
Gwen-Haël is also a tango organizer on the long run (milonga and workshops by Argentine maestros in Beijing, Buenos Aires and Paris) or for one-of-a-kind events (Tango bal at the Dance Celebration by Blanca Li at the Grand Palais, Paris, September 2011).
